HCMC

Ho Chi Minh City, also known by it’s former name, Saigon, is the largest city in Vietnam.

To find out what sites and attractions you should visit, visit WikiTravel’s Ho Chi Minh City Travel Guide.

HCMC has the largest selection of halal restaurants in Vietnam.  There are also many masjids/mosques Muslim travelers can visit as well.  GoHalalPlanet also included a small selection of hotels recommended by Muslims.  For Muslim Expats, you can buy halal meat and purchase halal groceries in HCMC as well.

Taxi Warning: There are a large number of complaints about the taxis by Indonesian and Malaysian Muslims arriving into HCMC from the Tan Son Nhat Airport.  Please only choose legitimate taxis such as Mai Linh, Vinasun and/or VinaTaxi.  You can ask a taxi attendent to get the taxi you want.  Vinasun has a taxi stand outside the baggage area where you can purchase a ticket for 150,000 VND to to go most places in HCMC. The normal taxi rate from the airport to District 1 ranges from 120,000 VND ($6 USD) to 200,000 VND ($10 USD) (vans and SUVs are higher fares).  Use a meter, do not negotiate the rate.  You can also contact your hotel to send a car to pick you up.  That will cost around $8-10 USD. GoHalalPlanet plans to provide airport pickup services at the Tan Son Nhat Airport (Contact GoHalalVietnam if you want airport pickup service).  Read Wikitravel’s advice on dealing with transportation in Ho Chi Minh City.
